چکیده

congenital dermal sinus tract is an uncommon type of spinal dysraphism that results when a focal area of the ectoderm fails to separate from the underlying neuroectoderm, a process termed nondysjunction. Nondysjunction prevents the insertion and subsequent development of mesodermal tissue, which normally separates the spinal cord from the skin. Congenital dermal sinus tracts occur rarely and are usually located in the lumbar or lumbosacral regions. Skin findings include abnormal pigmentation, subcutaneous lipomas, skin tags, hypertrichosis, angiomas, infection, and sinus ostia with a cephalically oriented tract, which may prompt further investigation and subsequent diagnosis. Congenital dermal sinus tracts may also be seen with other pathologic inclusion tumors such as dermoids, epidermoids, and teratomas. Treatment is surgical excision, with successful results in more than 90% of patients.1 To our knowledge, neither antenatal diagnoses nor cutaneous cystic findings have been reported for congenital dermal sinus tracts to date. We report a case of a dermal sinus incorrectly identified prenatally and postnatally as myelomeningocele.

MR of multiple intraspinal abscesses associated with congenital dermal sinus.

We describe the MR features in a case of multiple intraspinal abscesses involving almost the whole of the spinal cord in a 3-year-old child. The presence of a dermal sinus helped us in the preoperative diagnosis.

Catastrophic Intramedullary Abscess Caused by a Missed Congenital Dermal Sinus

Congenital dermal sinus (CDS) is a type of occult spinal dysraphism characterized by a midline skin dimple. A 12-month-old girl presented with fever and ascending quadriparesis. She had a midline skin dimple in the upper sacral area that had been discovered in her neonatal period. Imaging studies revealed a holocord intramedullary abscess and CDS. Overlooking CDS or misdiagnosing it as benign s...

Congenital dermal sinus and cyst in adulthood.

Dermal sinus tracts are formed during the 26th day of gestation from the incomplete closure of cutaneous ectoderm from neural ectoderm.1-5 As remnants of incomplete neural tube closure, they are often associated with dermoid and epidermoid cysts, spinal cord tethering and spinal fluid drainage.1,2,6-8 As such, dermal sinus tracts are diagnosed during early childhood.2,8 These entities most freq...

Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging of an Intramedullary Epidermoid Cyst with Dorsal Dermal Sinus Tract in a Toddler

We report the use of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose and manage a rare case of a symptomatic thoracic intramedullary congenital epidermoid cyst with associated dermal sinus in a girl. Congenital intramedullary epidermoid cysts with associated dermal sinuses are very rare occurrences and seldom present symptomatically in very young children. We present a case of a 32-mo...

Prenatal Diagnosis of Congenital Dermal Sinus

Background Congenital dermal sinus (CDS) is an uncommon form of spinal dysraphism. Although postdelivery identification in the neonate is aided by several associated physical examination findings, establishing this diagnosis prenatally has proven to be elusive. Case Report We present a case of CDS where the prenatal findings at 20 weeks gestation led to the diagnosis, which was confirmed postna...
